Steve Lewis
 — BS, MA, NSCA-CSCS
Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Performance and Sport Studies with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He also holds a master’s degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. Steve is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. He has 17 years of experience as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach, and also is HKC kettlebell certified. As a competitive Olympic-style weightlifter, Steve is a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Club Coach and USA Weightlifting Level 2 Senior Coach.
   
Dave_bunt_small Dave Bunt — NSCA-CSCS
Dave earned a degree in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. He was an intern with WMU’s strength and conditioning staff where he worked with several athletic teams. He is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and has more than five years of personal training experience working with a wide range of clients. Dave’s passion (and specialty) is helping athletes from beginner to elite levels through his unique, specialized sports performance training. He is passionate about helping all individuals realize their potential, whether their goal is sports performance or overall health and wellness.

Melony Farrer — BS, ISSA & NESTA-CPT
Melony has a passion for health and wellness, stemming from a background in competitive gymnastics and cheerleading, home-based personal training and group class facilitation. She enjoys helping clients stay fit and healthy by guiding them through proper techniques and personalized wellness programs, paying crucial attention to neutral posture alignment. Melony’s training philosophy is to find the right balance through muscular strength, physical endurance, nutrition, flexibility, rest and mental stimulation. She understands that all clients have different goals and unique needs, and thrives on watching clients grow through positive reinforcement. Her bachelor’s degree in textile studies is from Western Michigan University.

Chris O. Johnson — BS, USAW-C
Chris is a familiar face on the fitness floor, having worked at the BAC for the last six years while in high school and during his college tenure. Currently serving as the fitness staff supervisor, he has an Exercise Science degree from Western Michigan University. He works with pro level athletes and he is a national level bodybuilder; Chris also has his USA Weightlifting certification. A former walk-on member of the Western Michigan University football team, he has worked with strength and conditioning for the Broncos.

Brian Ladkrood — ACE-CPT
Brian joined the BAC in 2003, bringing with him three years of personal training experience. He is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. Brian enjoys working with clients of all fitness levels and age ranges. He especially enjoys introducing the advantages of incorporating strength training and nutrition into his clients' fitness regimen.

“I strive to help people reach a goal that they thought was unachievable through three foundation principles: (1) rest, (2) nutrition and (3) exercise. The reward is seeing their enthusiasm when they reach that goal.”

Garrett McLaughlin — MS, ATC-CSCS
Garrett earned a bachelor's degree from Quinnipiac University in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine and a masters degree from Florida International University in Physical Education: Sport and Fitness. He has three years experience working as an Certified Athletic Trainer in both collegiate and high school athletics. Garrett is also certified through the NSCA as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. Garrett’s passion and specialties are general health & wellness, injury rehabilitation and performance enhancement. He thoroughly enjoys working with clients and athletes of all ability levels to help them reach their full potential.

Lynn Martignon — BS, ACE-CPT
Lynn earned her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in Food Science and Human Nutrition. She is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. In addition to personal training at the BAC, she is also the VP of Sales for MiDAS Foods International, which has given her experience & knowledge in diet and healthy menu planning. Her position at the club is to fulfill a longtime passion of helping others realize exercise is just as beneficial for your mind and spirit as it is for your body. Lynn believes that if we make the choice to follow a well balanced program of cardio, weight training and proper diet consistently, big changes WILL occur.

 

Sarah_o_small Sarah Onderlinde — BS, NSCA-CSCS
Sarah graduated from Calvin College earning her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. Sarah enjoys working with people of all ages and fitness levels. After running three marathons, she has a new interest in helping others achieve their goals. Certified in pre- and post-natal exercise, she also enjoys training females in pre-natal fitness. Through proper exercise training and nutrition, Sarah hopes to help people improve their quality of life.

Ian Papworth ACSM, EKGB
Ian comes to the U.S. from the U.K. with 15 years' of experience within Personal Training and Sports Conditioning for Mixed Martial Arts. He has an American Certificate of Sports Medicine and a Sports City and Guilds (UK Qualification), so is an advanced Personal Trainer for peak fitness. Ian's main aim is to use functional exercise, kettlebells, TRX bands and fit balls to produce a strong a lean body for his clients. His sporting interest includes karate (in which he holds a 4th Dan Black Belt and represented England and Great Britain in competition), mixed martial arts and yoga. He has a fun and inventive way to achieve training goals.

 

 Jaylynn_schnurr_small Jalynn Schnur — BS, ACE-CPT, Specialty Certifications
Jalynn earned her bachelor’s degree in Finance from Central Michigan University. She joined the BAC in 2003 as a certified SPIN instructor. In 2009, she became a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. She is also certified to instruct R.I.P.P.E.D. as of September 2011. Jalynn’s enthusiasm for exercise carries her through all challenges in life. Her goal with her clients is to pass on the same enthusiasm along with her knowledge to assist them with their own challenges, whether it is adding exercise into their schedules, or choosing better nutrition for themselves and/or their family. Her love for instructing her SPIN classes has added to her personal training career and personal growth.
   
Rebecca_boos_small Rebekah Schuring-Boos — BS, ACE-CPT
Rebekah began working at the BAC in 2003 while she was studying Exercise Science at Western Michigan University. She began working in the Aquatic Department as a lifeguard and swimming coach. After receiving her certification for personal training from the American Council on Exercise, she began working as a trainer with a variety of clients. Rebekah enjoys working with teens and women of all ages and fitness levels. She is currently pursuing her RYT in yoga and hopes to become a Level 5 instructor. Her passion is helping others find joy in living a healthy balanced lifestyle. She believes exercise, nutrition, rest and personal enjoyment all play a vital role in achieving your healthiest you!
 
Sheri1_small Sheri Shon — ACE-CGEI/CPT, Specialty Certifications
Sheri has been the Group-X Director at the BAC for 11 years, and has been in the fitness industry for more than 29 years. She holds many specialty certifications in the fitness field. Currently, she is a Master Tabata Bootcamp™ Trainer and Master Gliding™ Trainer for Savvier Fitness. She also is a Master BOSU® Instructor, R.I.P.P.E.D®, Flirty Girl® Fitness Instructor, Resist-A-Ball Instructor and Spinning® Instructor. She also is certified as a Master Trainer with Delay the Disease program for individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease.She has been responsible and known for training many group-X instructors in the Kalamazoo area, along with providing many continuing education workshops each year for group-X instructors & personal trainers. Sheri enjoys working with all individuals from young adults to baby boomers. Her first love is teaching and training proper biomechanics. She loves teaching cardio, strength and endurance workouts group settings as well as working one-on-one with individuals who need that extra motivation to improve their lifestyle.

 Jeff_small Jeff Watts — ACE-CPT
Jeff is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). He is also certified in TRX group training and CPR/AED from the American Red Cross. Jeff spent 30+ years in business management before pursuing a training career. During that time he had several orthopedic surgeries, and understands how to work with, and around, the individual demands associated with physical rehabilitation and recovery. Jeff’s supportive training style is a fit for men and women of all ages, but may be especially helpful to those mid-life and older in working with the unique challenges associated with aging.
