Overview: - Size of the unit: 35

Types and Ages of Patients Served: The Adult Medical Unit has 35 beds and serves stable adult medical patients with an emphasis on, but not limited to, geriatric patients over the age of 70. Common diagnoses include general medical patients with pneumonia, COPD, nausea, vomiting and dehydration, cellulitis, diabetes, UTI, fever of unknown origin, remote telemetry and also cares for gynecological surgical patients. Description of Internal and External Customers: Internal customers served include other nursing units, physicians, patients, families, and all ancillary departments of the hospital. External customers we serve include, but are not limited to: home health care and Hospice services, area nursing homes, area rehabilitation facilities, Assisted Living facilities, medical supply companies, other contracted medical service companies, outlying hospitals, and the local community. Conditions and Diagnoses Treated: Conditions treated on the unit may include, but are not limited to: - Pneumonia
- COPD
- Nausea, vomiting, dehydration
- Cellulitis
- Diabetes
- UTI
- Fever of unknown origin
- Gynecological surgery (post-op)
Types of Services & Care Provided: Services provided include: Nursing care of general medical patients with ACE programming. Interdisciplinary rounds are held Monday-Friday with the Internal Medicine Hospital Specialist Group. The nursing staff consists of a team including: Volunteers, Unit Clerks, Patient Care Assistants, Registered Nurses, Unit Coordinators, a Nurse Educator, a Nurse Manager, and a Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist. The majority of the patients in AMU are admitted through the Internal Medicine Hospital Specialist group. Resident Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners also care for patients at the discretion of the attending physician. Other multi-disciplinary team members involved in the care of the patient include: Dietary, Case Management, Social Work, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Chaplains, Respiratory Care, Pharmacy students, and a Clinical Nurse Specialist focusing on Pain Management. Sites Where Services & Care are Provided: Lab draws, portable x-rays, EKG’s, Respiratory treatments, and PT/OT treatments are performed at the bedside. Patients are transported to/from radiology, cardiovascular lab, surgery, GI lab, Physical Therapy, MRI, and CT as needed for treatments and procedures. Times When Services & Care are Provided: Inpatient: Care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. | |
