Nursing Preceptor
At Bronson, a Preceptor is a staff person who is assigned to work one-on-one or on-the-job with an Orientee. Our Preceptor program is multidisciplinary and across the organization.
Bronson Preceptors provide a coaching relationship that helps Orientees learn and then demonstrate their competence with job-specific skills. Preceptors also assist Orientees to become socialized to the unit team and culture. Preceptors model and coach competency for critical thinking, teamwork, customer service and technical skills.
Staff who are interested in becoming Preceptors are recommended/approved by their manager. Program training builds on their interest in guiding new hires, their expertise in their job, and their professionalism. Training includes review of principles of adult learning, coaching strategies, as well as performance evaluation. Continuation in the Preceptor role requires positive feedback from new staff as well as the management and education teams for the department. Successful Preceptors renew their qualification for this extended role and receive financial recognition.
