Examples include: - Clinical Nurse Specialist — provide consultation and foster unit education and research. This is a registered nurse with a Master of Science Degree in Nursing and advanced knowledge, competence and expertise in a nursing specialty. The CNS role has five specific areas that fall into their scope of practice: practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher and administrator.
- Nurse Manager — create a supportive environment for employees to advance in their career. They demonstrate accountability for developing retention strategies and are responsible for the overall unit operations.
- Nursing Unit Coordinator — oversee day-to-day operational unit functions and provide staff with ongoing daily support.
- Nursing Education Services — develop and implement individualized competency-based orientation and foster unit educational development.
- Clinical Nurse Preceptor — facilitate diverse unit learning experiences and professional/clinical development with new employees.
- Clinical Nurse Liaison — provide unit support involving physician and patient issues.
- Scheduling and Staffing Services — uses a computerized system to optimize nurse-to-patient ratios and analyze short- and long-term staffing needs.
