Music Therapy

Bronson is committed to making each and every patient's stay as comfortable as possible. Music Therapy is available to lower the stress and anxiety that patients can feel while they are in the hospital.

Services
Bronson’s Music Therapy program for patients of all ages and their families is designed to improve quality of life through the use of live music and personal interaction.

How can Music Therapy help patients?
Music Therapy is an established, evidence-based healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual needs. Music Therapy is not entertainment. Medical music therapists are trained and certified to design individualized and personalized sessions for patients. Music therapists use singing, instrument playing, song writing, movement and more.

Benefits of Music Therapy for patients during their stay at Bronson include:

  • Less pain or more manageable pain
  • Less anxiety and stress
  • Less nausea
  • Better mood
  • More comfort and relaxation
  • More communication and socialization
  • Normalized environment and perception of the hospital
  • Positive memory recall for adult patients with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia

How can Music Therapy help new babies and parents?
Music can help with individual and developmental needs of premature infants and newborn babies. Research shows that infants who receive Music Therapy services have a shorter hospital stay and gain more weight. Music Therapy for new parents includes education and support in providing safe stimulation for their premature infant.

Music Therapy is available at Bronson Methodist Hospital for new babies and their parents to:

  • Support the sensory system development of a premature baby
  • Increase cognitive, motor, language and emotional development skills of an infant
  • Provide opportunities for parent and infant interaction and bonding
  • Manage pain
  • Help parents record music that can be played for their baby during the hospital stay

Bronson’s Music Therapy program follows the standards, practices, policies and procedures of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). For more information about Music Therapy, visit the AMTA Website.
