Diabetes is a serious, chronic disease that affects millions of people. If you have diabetes, it is very important to take care of yourself. Bronson can give you and your family the knowledge and skills you need to manage all stages of diabetes.
Services
Individual Instruction
Registered nurses and dietitians who are certified diabetes educators lead one-on-one education sessions tailored to your needs. Topics may include:
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Insulin injection
- Meal planning
- Record keeping
Group Classes
Group classes are offered for adults as three, three-hour sessions or one all-day session. The classes are led by registered nurses and dietitians who are certified diabetes educators. Some evening classes are available. Topics include:
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Complications
- Eating out
- Exercise
- Foot care
- Grocery shopping
- Meal planning
- Medications
- Sick days
Support Group
Our support group enables you to share experiences with others who have diabetes. The group meets on the first Thursday of every month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Gilmore Center for Health Education. The group is open to the public free of charge. No physician referral is needed, and pre-registration is not required.
If you have gestational diabetes, contact us about our loaner meter program and nutrition education.
You must have a physician referral for individual or class instruction.
Insurance and Billing
Many insurance carriers cover diabetes services, but check with your insurance plan for more information. Bronson will automatically bill Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance plans for you. You will be responsible for paying any annual deductibles, co-payments or payments for services not covered by your insurance.
Quality
The Bronson Diabetes Education Center has met the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education by the American Diabetes Association. The program is also certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health.
