Vascular Services

In the past 10 years, technology has revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases. Our team of specialists uses the latest tests and minimally invasive procedures to detect circulatory problems and treat them before they cause serious health concerns.

The vascular system is one of our largest organs-arteries, veins, and lymph vessels that circulate blood throughout your body.

Oxygen-rich blood is pumped from the left side of your heart to your organs through arteries. Blood returns from your organs to the right side of your heart through veins. When the flow of blood through your arteries is interrupted, organs can be damaged. Blood clots in the arteries can cause heart attack, stroke and other serious and even fatal health problems.

Services
Patients turn to us for treatment of the following vascular conditions:

  • Aneurysm - the ballooning of a weakened artery-usually the aorta, the main artery of the body. Rupture of an aneurysm can cause bleeding and even death
  • Arteriosclerosis - the narrowing of arteries by plaque, which reduces the flow of blood to the arms, legs, head, neck or abdominal organs
  • Carotid stenosis - blockage of the carotid artery, which carries blood to the brain. This condition can cause strokes.
  • Claudicaton - leg pain during physical activity
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
  • Renal hypertension
  • Skin deterioration, leg ulcers or gangrene
  • Stroke
  • Thoracic Aortic Endograft (TAG)
  • Varicose veins

Revolutionary Diagnosis and Treatment
In southwest Michigan, Bronson has introduced the region's first state-of-the-art endovascular surgical suite dedicated to minimally invasive treatment of vascular disease. Many patients benefit from the latest minimally invasive surgical procedures and endovascular (within the blood vessel) techniques. These are alternatives to traditional, open vascular surgery.

The physician inserts very small instruments, such as catheters and guide wires, into the blood vessel through a small incision in the skin. With these instruments, the physician can clear vessel blockages (angioplasty), stop bleeding (embolization), remove organs or tissues (ablation), introduce stents and graphs, and deliver medicines.

These techniques require much smaller incisions that traditional, open vascular surgery. The result is less pain and need for pain medication, lower infection risk, a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery.

Quality
You can be confident in choosing Bronson for your vascular care needs. Bronson’s Non Invasive Vascular Laboratory has received accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) for its commitment to providing a high level of patient care and quality testing for the diagnosis of vascular disease. Also, Bronson's five-star rating for carotid endarterectomy (2007) and repair of abdominal aorta (2008) from HealthGrades® speaks volumes about the level of care that patients receive at Bronson.

Our Team
Our team of specialists include interventional vascular surgeons, cardiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and interventional radiologists. Bronson has an interventional neuro-radiologist, and the area's only vascular neurologist, who specializes in the latest techniques to detect and treat stroke and related diseases.
