This system offers patients an alternative to traditional open procedures.
Operating Robotically
Using a robot, our specially trained surgeons perform complex and delicate operations through very small surgical openings. These openings serve as entry points for surgical tools and video cameras.
The system consists of a surgeon console, a patient-side cart with four robotic arms, a high-performance 3-D vision system, and EndoWrist®instruments. These offer greater flexibility and dexterity than the human wrist and forearm.
Surgeons, working at a console in the operating room, view the operating field and use controls to operate the robotic arms and instruments. The da Vinci system transfers the surgeon’s exact hand and finger movements to precise microsurgical movements in the operative field.
The daVinci Surgical System offers the surgeon more dexterity, better control of surgical instruments, greater depth of field and high-definition vision, allowing a greater view of the surgical area. This improved performance helps surgeons to complete more complicated and delicate procedures minimally invasively, which benefits patients.
Benefits of Robotic Surgery
Compared to open surgeries, benefits of minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery, include:
- smaller incisions
- shorter hospital stay
- less need for pain medication
- less blood loss resulting in less need for transfusions
- less scarring
- faster return to daily activities
Procedures
This technology can improve the way surgeons perform a number of procedures, including gynecology, urology, colon and pediatric surgery procedures.
Robotic surgery is one of the new ways Bronson helps make surgery better for patients. That’s why Bronson is the most preferred hospital for surgery in the Kalamazoo area.
