Bronson Guidelines for Handmade Baby Items
Pattern Baby hats, sweaters, booties and blankets may be made in any knit, crochet or quilt pattern you choose. Color Yarn: Please use white and pastel colors for all items. Avoid dark colors. While variegated yarn is beautiful, we have found that mothers of baby boys prefer items without ANY pink or peach. With this in mind, please do not mix blue with pink or peach. While it is tempting to use up "scrap" yarn, please mix and match colors carefully. Material Please use kid prints and solid colors as described above. Weight Baby weight or knitting worsted weight washable yarn works best for baby hats. Please avoid bulky yarn and do not use wool yarn. Size - Hats:
- Width: The average measurement of a newborn baby's head is 13 - 15 inches around. Even premature babies' heads measure 11 inches. Please make sure the hat can stretch to the proper size.
- Length: Hats should be at least 5 1/2 inches long so the baby's ears are covered. If the hat is too long, it can always be cuffed up. Please make sure the last row is not tight (it needs to stretch).
- Blankets:
- Minimum of 36 inches square
- Sweaters and Booties:
Pom-poms Pom-poms and ribbons add a nice touch but are not mandatory. The Best Guideline If you would be proud to have your child or grandchild wear it, Bronson is proud to have our babies wear it.
Thank you for donating your time and talent to Bronson's babies!
