William J. Mayer, MD, MPH, serves on Bronson’s Executive Leadership team with responsibility for clinical quality and safety improvement, clinical innovation and clinical knowledge management for all entities in the Bronson system. He also represents Bronson as chair of the Board of the West Michigan Cancer Center – a Bronson Joint Venture.

Mayer has over 20 years of leadership experience in health care and health-related organizations. His professional roles have included program director at the National Institutes of Health; co-leader of health care consulting at Towers Watson & Co. in Washington, D.C.; corporate medical director, division president and executive vice president at Kellogg Company; and medical director at IBA and United Health Care. Mayer has served on the faculty of the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program, as a lecturer in epidemiology at The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and as a reviewer for the New England Journal of Medicine. He has published a number of peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.

Mayer received his bachelor’s degree from Amherst College, his medical degree from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, and his Master of Public Health degree from The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is board certified in Preventive Medicine.

In addition to his professional responsibilities at Bronson, Mayer serves as a member of C-Change, the national coalition to conquer cancer called together by former President George H.W. Bush. He also advises the director of the Michigan Medicaid program as a member of the Medical Care Advisory Council, and he serves as medical editor of the Hope Health Letter, an award-winning national newsletter for employees and their families. Mayer also works to assure access to quality primary care for the underserved at the Family Health Center of Battle Creek.
