Bronson Methodist Hospital Recognized for Heart Attack Care
December 09, 2008
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Bronson Methodist Hospital has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award for 2008 – one of only 93 hospitals nationwide, and the only in southwest Michigan – to do so.
The award recognizes Bronson’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies that Bronson has reached an aggressive goal of treating coronary artery disease patients with at least 85 percent compliance to core standard levels of care outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
To receive the ACTION Registry–GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award, Bronson consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry–GWTG for 12 consecutive months. These include aggressive use of medications like cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, aspirin, and anticoagulants in the hospital.
“As southwest Michigan's first accredited Chest Pain Emergency Center, Bronson offers special expertise in diagnosing chest pain and treating heart attacks. With the number of heart attacks on the rise, it’s more important than ever for top heart care hospitals like us to focus on improving care and treatment for patients,” said Bill Mayer, M.D, M.P.H., Bronson vice president of medical staff clinical quality. “This recognition, along with others the hospital has received for cardiovascular care, is a direct result of our staff’s dedication to clinical excellence. Patients and families in southwest Michigan can be assured that when they come to Bronson for heart care, they can expect outcomes that are amongst the best in the nation.”
Cardiovascular services at Bronson include prevention and education, early detection, minimally invasive procedures, surgical interventions, personalized rehabilitation programs, and home telemonitoring.
Bronson Methodist Hospital was recently the only hospital in southwest Michigan named as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® for cardiovascular care for 2008 by Thomson Reuters. In addition, Bronson is best rated in southwest Michigan for overall cardiac care by Healthgrades®, one of the nation's leading authorities on hospital performance. UnitedHealth PremiumSM also designates Bronson as a cardiac specialty center.
