American Diabetes Association Foot Screening Day to be Held November 7
October 23, 2007
Bronson is partnering with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to provide free community foot screenings and diabetes education on Wednesday, November 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The ADA will be conducting this event at 28 locations in Michigan, including the Bronson Diabetes Education Center at 524 S. Park Street in Kalamazoo.
A podiatrist will perform all foot screenings. During the screening, attendees will learn the importance of a self-foot exam, as well as how to conduct a self-foot exam.
The collaboration is part of American Diabetes Month in November. People with diabetes have to take special care of their feet. Diabetes can cause people to lose some feeling in their feet, a condition known as neuropathy. A small blister, cut, or splinter can lead to a serious infection, gangrene, or even amputation. People with diabetes should inspect their feet every day.
During American Diabetes Month, efforts like the free foot screenings will help educate people about one of the serious complications of diabetes.
Healthcare providers should conduct foot exams during every healthcare visit by people with diabetes.
