Description:

Symposium Objectives - Upon completion of the symposium, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the concept of damage control resuscitation and name its components
  2. Describe indications for blood product use in fluid resuscitation
  3. Describe options for airway management of the injured patient
  4. Describe the current best evidence for the timing of treatment of open fractures
  5. Define appropriate uses of social media and social networking
  6. Discuss care considerations for trauma patients in the extremes of age
  7. Describe prehospital care for the patient with pelvic fractures
  8. Describe the benefits of a comprehensive casualty transport system

Credit Information Continuing Education Credit Approvals This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Michigan State Medical Society Committee on CME Accreditation through the joint sponsorship of Western Michigan University School of Medicine and Borgess. Western Michigan University School of Medicine is accredited by the MSMS Committee on CME Accreditation to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Western Michigan University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6 (Six) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Optional for Nursing Credits. The MSMS Committee on CME Accreditation is recognized by the ACCME. The Michigan Board of Nursing accepts continuing education credits from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
