Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema is a build-up of fluid just under the skin. This causes swelling (or edema), most often in the arms or legs. While there is no cure for lymphedema, swelling and pain can be managed through therapy.

Individuals with the following may benefit from lymphedema therapy:

  • Abnormal lymph systems from birth
  • Chronic venous insufficiency
  • Repeated infections
  • Liposuction
  • Lymph node removal
  • Traumatic injury
  • Circulatory disorders
  • Effects of radiation
  • Surgical scarring or post-surgical swelling

Services
The treatment of lymphedema at Bronson includes:

  • Manual drainage
  • Compression bandaging and garments
  • Light exercise
  • Skin care
  • Nutrition education
  • Self-care training

The length of treatment depends on the severity of the lymphedema and how long you have had it. Patients that have had lymphedema for years can still respond to treatment.
