Bronson Healthcare system employees share why they give back to Bronson!
A few weeks ago, I was sharing with my mother the Foundation’s plans to introduce the Little Help, Big Difference (LHBD) campaign to all Bronson employees for the first time ever. Having once been an employee with Battle Creek Health Systems, and a donor to the LHBD campaign, I thought she might find it inspiring that the effort was now reaching more than 8,000 Bronson employees across southwest Michigan. During our conversation, I learned something I had not been aware of previously – my mom was once the grateful recipient of the generosity Little Help, Big Difference generates.
Roughly 14 years ago, my mother was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Her cancer fight included participating in a clinical trial, but the experimental drugs were not covered by insurance. Unbeknownst to my mother, her colleagues nominated her to receive assistance in paying for those medications through Little Help, Big Difference. That clinical trial very likely saved her life.
Three years ago, we celebrated my mother’s 60th birthday – a milestone she was not supposed to see according to her diagnosing physicians. On her 61st birthday, my wife and I presented her with an ultrasound of her grandson. Today, he is 18 months old and very much enjoys his grandmother’s presence in his life.
Perhaps some of you out there once worked with my mother, and you might have been donors to Little Help, Big Difference. If so, whoever you are – thank you. To all my colleagues: thank you for making Bronson the wonderful place that it is for each other and for our patients and families. You are appreciated in countless ways.
