John and Kay Polzin Ambassador for Healthcare Award

Bronson Health Foundation presents its first John and Kay Polzin Ambassador for Healthcare Award to Dr. Aaron Lane-Davies

December 2015 - For more than 30 years, John and Kay Polzin have been dedicated to improving healthcare in the greater Kalamazoo community through their humble generosity and servant leadership. To honor the couple’s steadfast commitment, the Bronson Health Foundation’s Board of Directors, of which John was a member from 1987-2015, recently established an award in their honor.

The Polzins have long championed children’s health. They spearheaded the Bronson Children’s Hospital Restful Rooms community-wide campaign, donating and raising money for sleeper sofas in patient rooms, modern televisions and whimsical wall paintings to soothe children undergoing medical procedures. Recently, they purchased a set of MRI Goggles, so children who need to hold still during Magnetic Resonance Imaging could watch videos while undergoing tests instead of being sedated.

The new John and Kay Polzin Ambassador for Healthcare Award recognizes those who work tirelessly to make our region a better place to live, and do so with no intent or expectation of recognition. The award will honor quiet heroes dedicated to strengthening the community, whose generosity cannot be measured.

At the close of 2015, the foundation presented the first Polzin Ambassador for Healthcare Award to Dr. Aaron Lane Davies, medical director of the Bronson Children’s Hospital and chief of staff for Bronson Methodist Hospital. His commitment and leadership to Bronson and his service to the community made him the perfect first recipient. The award was presented to Lane-Davies during the Bronson Health Foundation’s annual year-end meeting.

Dr. Lane-Davies has made not only a professional commitment to supporting children’s health, but also a personal one. He is currently in year two of a journey to hike the entire 1,100 mile Michigan stretch of the North Country Trail over four summers. He’s undertaking this adventure to highlight the future needs of the Bronson Children’s Hospital and is raising awareness and funds to support pediatric subspecialties at Bronson along the way. Dr. Lane-Davies established an endowment with the Bronson Health Foundation to ensure a full array of specialized doctors will continue to staff the children’s hospital so patients and families in southwest Michigan can always secure comprehensive pediatric care close to home.
