When Valerie and Kim Nuyen learned about a proposed new Women’s Health Fund at Bronson, they knew right away it was something they wanted to support. The couple has many women close to their hearts, among them their daughter, daughter-in-law, and four granddaughters. They also think often of a dear friend who spent years advocating for others with cancer, but delayed her own screenings and passed away just two years after her breast cancer diagnosis.
The Nuyens hope the new Valerie J. Nuyen Women’s Health Fund will encourage more women to get screened, support new technologies, and provide resources for those who can’t afford the care they need.
“I’m very passionate about it,” says Valerie. “From pregnancy to cancer screening to breast health, the Women’s Health Fund supports it all. Our family is blessed to be able to contribute so others who may not have the ability to pay for their care, or who put it off, can get the care they need. And, so Bronson can continue to support the latest technology and staff education.”
The Nuyens have been generous donors to Bronson in many ways, including serving as lead investors in the Bronson Cancer Care Campaign from 2019 to 2021. They say Bronson has long been part of their lives, and they’re proud to continue supporting its mission.
“Bronson has grown and continues to invest in the community,” says Kim. “Being locally led makes a huge difference. We want to help as often as we can, for as long as we can.”
