NicView Camera for NICU
The NicView Web Camera is an innovative camera system placed above the bed of NICU babies. This new technology allows parents, family and friends round-the-clock, real-time access to their infant through a secure online portal.
This NicView Web Camera helps families bond with their preemie or hospitalized infant even when they can’t be in the NICU. The system also allows caregivers in the NICU to manage infant viewing securely via secure, encrypted transmissions.
Making parents feel more involved strengthens relationships and provides reassurance, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on the job of caring for their NICU patients. This simple device provides a valuable service for parents and relatives, increasing patient satisfaction.
Bronson Children’s Hospital averages more than 600 admissions per year in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This specially equipped unit has 45 all-private rooms. It offers care 24 hours a day care for sick and premature babies and provides the highest level of neonatal care in southwest Michigan.
NICU patients have prolonged hospital stays. Stays can exceed the duration of maternity leave. Parents are faced with an impossible decision regarding their child. The joy of being a parent is replaced by the unease of separation and the stress of fitting in regular visits. Bronson is exploring technology which will help reduce this stress and bring hospital, family, and baby together.
The Bronson Health Foundation's $150,000 fundraising campaign helped to furnish our NICU with the NicView camera system.
