Bronson to Expand Primary Care Services in Battle Creek
Access to primary care providers in Battle Creek is getting a boost as the Bronson Healthcare system begins development of a new outpatient campus on a 25 acre site at Helmer Road and I-94.
Groundbreaking recently took place at 2900 Watkins Road for a 14,000 square foot facility that will become home to a new Bronson Family Medicine practice. The practice, designed for seven providers and 20+ support staff, is expected to open in spring, 2017. Kalamazoo-based Diekema Hamann is the architectural and engineering firm and CSM is the construction manager. Local trades are being sought as subcontractors.
Bronson Battle Creek COO Jim McKernan says, “Calhoun County faces a shortage of family physicians. Our goal in opening this new primary care practice in Battle Creek is to make it easier for people who do not currently have a doctor to get one. Having routine check-ups and a relationship with a primary care provider is a key factor in achieving and maintaining good health. Once a patient is established with a Bronson provider there are many ways we work together utilizing our centralized electronic health record system to coordinate care across service locations in Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties.”
Since becoming part of the Bronson Healthcare system in 2011, Bronson Battle Creek’s medical staff has doubled in size to more than 500 physicians and advanced practice providers. Its workforce has grown to nearly 1,700 and more than $60 million has been invested in new technology, equipment and facilities. As a mission-driven organization, it has also delivered more than $100 million in uncompensated care and services to area families over the last five years.
