Adrienne is the supreme example of a nurse with expertise

Adrienne is a nurse at the Bronson Cancer Center in Kalamazoo. She has exceptional expertise when it comes to emergent situations on our infusion unit. We are a small unit with many smart, amazing nurses. There are times when some patients experience adverse reactions to their medications. Not as often, the reaction can become severe and life threatening. Twice this year we experienced situations where we had to call a code. In the outpatient setting, a code is run a little different. We don't have as many resources as the hospital. We immediately call 911 and start CPR. Adrienne has been a nurse many years, with recent Emergency Department experience. Because of this, she is a huge asset to our staff and our patients during these codes. She is able to help direct and guide in a calm manner until the EMS team arrives. The first code situation was later in the day, leaving us with only four nurses on the unit to help a patient who stopped breathing and lost their heart rate. Adrienne was quick with her actions, immediately getting the patient in a proper position to start CPR. She calmly delegated actions to her peers, while performing compressions. EMS arrived just as the patient came back to us. I believe her quick actions saved that patients’ life. Thankfully, there were more staff working during our second code. But again, Adrienne was right there, using her critical thinking and calm actions to assist where she could. That patient was also revived this time. Adrienne is one of those nurses you want around in an emergency (and always). She is thoughtful of her decisions, quick in her actions, and calm and courteous with her delegating. Adrienne is the supreme example of a nurse who excels at expertise.
