The best staff caring for me!

Agnes is a patient care assistant (PCA) at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Last May we received an email regarding Agnes’ compassionate response to a family member who had just lost his son. While this wasn’t her patient, she still found the time to console his devastated father. This instance, while an extraordinary example, is one of the many kudos we have received about Agnes regarding her care for patients, their families, and her co-workers.

Good Evening,
I am just reaching out in regard to one of your amazing float PCAs, Agnes. She’s always been one of the most compassionate, hard-working PCA’s I’ve ever met, but what I just witnessed gave me goose bumps. So much so, that I had to give her a shout out!
We just had a code blue on cardiology. Agnes was floated to our unit yesterday, so she wanted to see if this patient was one of her patients whom she had the day prior.
While doing so, I asked if she’d give the coded patient’s father a box of Kleenex. Like always, she was more than willing to do so. The father was in our waiting area crying amongst himself after just finding out his son didn’t make it. I look over and Agnes was sitting next to this patient’s father, on the floor, talking and crying with this man. Agnes knew nothing about the family, nothing about the patient, nothing about the code. Nothing. She didn’t actually have that particular patient yesterday, but she still found it in herself to sit there and comfort this person during such a difficult time in his life. She could have left the Kleenex and walked away, but that isn’t the type of person she is.
Witnessing this gave me goose bumps, because I really envy people with that type of strength and compassion. What she did today was something I, and most others, would have avoided. It takes a strong soul. She definitely deserves the recognition.
I’m grateful to have the opportunity to work side-by-side with her, and Bronson is very lucky to have her.
