The best staff caring for me!

Photo of Anika, a Bronson nurse, smiling with her 2024 Nursing Excellence Award.

Anika Meyers embodies, and is an exemplar, of:

  • Advocating for the nursing team, patients, and families.
  • Creating a safe, supportive, trusting, collaborative, and mutually respectful environment.
  • Celebrating the team in meaningful ways and is visible, accessible, and responsive.
  • Honoring human differences.
  • Encouraging innovative problem solving, supports free exchange of opinions and ideas.
  • Developing a culture of resiliency, compassion, and excellence as well as supports professional development.
  • Supporting organizational strategies, goals, and initiatives as well as what Bronson and the profession of nursing stand for.

It is a privilege to work with Anika. Anyone who knows her -or even if you are meeting her for the first time - will get the same Anika day in and day out ... A cheerful smile, maybe a witty joke, and just a better day. That is truly saying something, given what the last couple years have thrown our way. She is friendly, compassionate, caring, supportive, accountable, and has a huge heart. That list goes on and on. Despite wearing many different hats throughout each day, if there is anything you need, she is always right there somehow wearing the exact hat you need in that moment, and somehow, she always has the time. You will never feel rushed, and you will always feel heard.

She comes in frequently and works extra to support her general surgery unit (GSU) family when staffing is short and does what it takes to ensure that both patients and staff are taken care of to the best of her ability. One of her biggest strengths is her ability to connect with people. This is evident every day whether she is solving an issue with a patient's family member, troubleshooting with other departments, speaking up in meetings, or even when staff members seek her out to discuss issues happening outside of work. She is a joy to work with and a true asset not only to GSU specifically, but Bronson as a whole.
