The Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek deserves a five-star rating

My cancer journey started in August 2024 after a routine breast screening showed some concerning spots. A follow-up mammogram and CT scan confirmed it – I had breast cancer. Hearing those words was terrifying, and I didn’t know what to expect next.

When you find out you have cancer, you are given a list of doctors in Southwest Michigan to choose from. I live in Battle Creek, so I decided to receive care at the Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek and I’m so glad I did!

From the start, the team at Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek made me feel supported and cared for. Their multidisciplinary board reviewed my results and recommended a plan. At first, they suggested I have a mastectomy, then chemotherapy, then radiation. I was nervous and had lots of questions, so I met with a surgeon, Dr. Kerri Murray. After talking it through, we decided to start with chemotherapy, then have the mastectomy, and finish with radiation. Having a say in my treatment plan made a huge difference for me.

Everyone I’ve encountered in Battle Creek has been absolutely amazing. From the moment I walked in, they have treated me so well. Candice greeted me warmly at the front desk, Melissa helped me with check-in, and my nurse Holly has been a constant source of support. My medical oncologist, Dr. Hari Nair, has been wonderful – knowledgeable, caring and genuinely invested in my well-being. Dr. Murray, was incredible, always taking the time to explain everything and helping me make informed decisions about my care.

I also want to recognize Shelli, Dr. Murray’s assistant, as well the nurses in the infusion center, like Lindsey, Gretchen, Hannah and Erin – they were some of my favorites, and all the technicians in the radiation center, who worked alongside my radiation oncologist, Dr. David Wallington. Each person I encountered during treatment was caring, upbeat and positive–their positivity really made a difference during treatment.

Sara Barton, one of the nurse navigators, is the sweetest person on earth! She truly made my journey smoother and less stressful. She helped me navigate appointments, answered my questions and always checked in on me. When I was worried about waiting for my mastectomy, she got it scheduled sooner, which helped me feel more at ease. Her compassion and dedication meant the world to me.

Now, I’m proud to say I’m doing well. There are not enough words to thank everyone for their kindness and compassion! The Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek deserves a five-star rating. I would highly recommend them to anyone in their cancer journey and path to recovery!
