Born at 23 weeks, he beat the odds
I had no idea of the journey I was about to embark on when my son, Kiran, was born suddenly at 23 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound, 6 ounces. With all the challenges he faced, Kiran progressed magnificently and made it home after 118 days in the NICU. Despite expectations for a 23 weeker, Kiran has never had any surgeries, has excellent vision and hearing, and no intellectual or cognitive delays. He is now a healthy and energetic 3-and-a-half-year-old. He has been off all medications and inhalers for over 2 years now, and currently attends the 3-year-old preschool program.
Kiran is very smart and imaginative and enjoys talking in full sentences and telling silly stories. His favorite activities are building with pipes, helping to mow the lawn, and eating popsicles.
