We are grateful that Brynn is back to doing what she loves
When she’s not in school, you’ll often find Brynn Cummings on stage, either as a ventriloquist or acting in a theater production. But recently, when Brynn was scheduled to take the stage with her puppet (name), she started having stomach pains and plans quickly changed.
Instead of entertaining an audience that weekend, Brynn ended up at Bronson Children’s Hospital with appendicitis. She remembers the colorful fleece blanket that comforted her right when she arrived, the stuffed bear she received as a companion before surgery, and the child life specialist who brought video games and movies for distraction. “Everyone was there to help me and focused on my care,” she says. “They really made me feel the best I could in that circumstance.”
Brynn’s mom, Amy, says the special touches along the way, and the expertise and warmth of pediatric surgeon Dr. Michael Leinwand, made a big difference. “The staff was just so thorough and friendly. We could not have asked for a better experience,” Amy says.
These days, Brynn is back on stage, starring as Cheshire the Cat in her high school’s production of Alice in Wonderland. She has her sights set on New York City someday — first Juilliard, then Broadway.
“We are grateful that Brynn is back to doing what she loves,” says Amy, and that Bronson Children’s Hospital was there when Brynn needed it. “It was amazing. The fact that it was close to home is awesome.”
