Caring for My Son’s Heart and My Own

When my son was born with two holes in his heart, I entered motherhood carrying fear, uncertainty and the weight of doing it alone as a young single parent. From the moment I met Allison at Bronson Pediatric Cardiology Specialists, I felt like we were no longer facing this journey by ourselves.

In the months leading up to Elijah’s open-heart surgery, Allison became one of our greatest sources of strength. She never made me feel like just another parent with questions. She responded to every message with patience and clarity, guided me through moments of panic and made me feel heard and understood. There were times I reached out to her first in urgent situations because I trusted her knowledge, her calm presence and her genuine care for my child.

What sets Allison apart is not only her clinical expertise but her compassion. She checked in beyond scheduled visits, made sure we had access to the resources we needed and reminded me, during some of the hardest moments of my life, that I was capable of getting through this. She cared for my son’s heart while also caring for mine.

Now that my son has recovered from surgery, we see her less often, but her impact on our lives remains profound. Her support carried us through an incredibly difficult chapter, and I will always be grateful for the role she played in my son’s healing and in my growth as a mother.
