Barry will forever hold a special place in our hearts
This nomination is for Barry L., the RN who went above and beyond for me, my wife, and my son after my surgery. I am including an excerpt from my wife's blog entry highlighting Barry:
"Stephen laid there looking kind of confused. I was so excited to be able to tell him that Dr. Itawi was able to remove all of the tumor along with several lymph nodes. The surgery was a big success! I told Stephen the news and he laid there kind of blinking at me.
It took a few seconds for things to register and then he smiled weakly and laid back. Ansel (our 13 year old son) went up to Barry the RN and said “Hey do you have time to answer some questions I have?” and he said “Sure thing!” Ansel said “Well, I know you have a lot of other patients you are looking after, so I wanted to double check.” ...... Ansel proceeded to ask Barry multiple questions. Barry very patiently explained to Ansel what every tube and line was for, what the monitors were tracking, what the IV bag was for, everything. He really took his time with Ansel and it meant so much to us. Ansel asked some hard questions. Apparently Barry has a son very similar to Ansel who is quite inquisitive. I explained that Ansel handles his anxiety better when he fully understands his environment. When he figured out what all the tubes and wires were for I could see his shoulders relax. I can’t thank Barry RN enough for being there for Ansel in that very formative moment for him. He went way above and beyond. I heard him working with other patients in the recovery area too and again, above and beyond with every single person he encountered."
Bronson Health, you have an incredible asset with Barry. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts for helping our family through an incredibly vulnerable moment in my battle with cancer.
