Grateful to have her on our team
Chelsea Erskine, RN, is the recipient of the 2025 Nursing Excellence Award: Leadership
On our dialysis unit, we not only run dialysis treatments on patients, but we also run apheresis treatments. Recently, we received orders to do five PLEX treatments on a new patient with an auto immune disease. Normally this is not a big deal but in this particular situation the patient was a six-year-old vented patient in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). We have not run a pediatric patient in the past, which was unnerving to say the least, but the patient also required a custom prime done for the machine. Again, something we have not experienced. Chelsea Erskine took it upon herself to learn and run the first two PLEX treatments. She also took pictures of machine set up with the custom prime and wrote it out for the other nurses in the unit. When it came time for the other nurses to run the pediatric patient, she made herself available and talked us through the machine set up and prime over the phone. We were then able to call her with any questions. Chelsea's knowledge, skills and team approach for helping out her fellow nurses and ultimately helping the young child went above and beyond and we are forever grateful she is a part of our team.
