Her competency, critical thinking skills, and autonomy are an immeasurable asset to the team

Denise Heath, RN, is the recipient of the 2025 Nursing Excellence Award: Expertise

Do I know a nurse at Bronson who really goes above and beyond and deserves special recognition? Yes, I do. Her name is Denise Heath and she is a nurse on the neurovascular unit. Denise will celebrate 35 years at Bronson this June. She has dedicated her career to the NVU and her competency, critical thinking skills, and autonomy are an immeasurable asset to the team.

Here follows just one example of Denise’s expertise as a nurse, her ability to advocate for her patients and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team: "She was by far one of the best nurses I had during my weeklong stay. She was compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring. She constantly made sure I had what I needed and fought for me to get a procedure done that I needed but was getting push back on. I am so grateful for Denise and the care she provided for me. When she walked in, I knew I was in good hands and could focus on my healing. Truly grateful for her and the care she provided for me.”

Denise is a charge nurse, bedside nurse, preceptor, VAST champion, and neuro expert on her unit. Her extensive experience over nearly 35 years has given her invaluable wisdom that she readily shares with her coworkers and in the expert care she provides to all her patients.
