Honoring the EMCU Team's Compassion and Collaboration

Every day, the Bronson Methodist Hospital Extended Medical Care Unit (EMCU) exemplify what it truly means to provide compassionate, patient-centered care-not just as individuals, but as a unified, supportive team.

In the midst of busy shifts, alarms, and constant demands, they never lose sight of what truly matters - the human being in front of them. They don't just care for patients; they care about them. They take the time to listen when a patient is scared, to comfort a family when words are hard to find, and to offer reassurance in moments filled with uncertainty.

What makes this team extraordinary is not just their clinical skills, but their heart. They anticipate each other's needs without being asked. They step in quietly when a teammate is overwhelmed. They celebrate small victories together and carry each other through the hardest days. There is a deep sense of trust, respect, and genuine compassion that flows through everything they do.

Patients may not always remember every detail of their treatment, but they remember how this team made them feel safe, seen, and not alone. Families leave knowing their loved one was cared for with dignity and kindness, as if they were their own.

The staff on EMCU go above and beyond for staff, patients, and their families. Some examples are helping and officiating a wedding for a dying family member so he can see his son get married, driving to the airport to pick up a patient's luggage when she left it there after arriving, singing and dancing with the patients, grabbing a hitch off their vehicle to comfort a patient because he needed to touch steel and so many more examples. We celebrate the staff with celebrations for birthdays, weddings, and baby showers.

We are not just co-workers, we are family. I have been so blessed to call EMCU my home for the last 13 years.
