I am a Breast Cancer Survivor Thanks to Bronson!

In 2021, I received my annual mammogram and breast cancer was detected. Going through cancer wasn’t fun, but my experience at Bronson was wonderful and positive.
I was referred to the Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek for my treatment. The care team was so great to me – especially my radiation therapist, Ariel Bates. She was so wonderful, and she’s from my hometown. Even though we didn’t know each other, she made me feel like we did which made me feel comfortable.
Everyone I came across treated me with such compassion and love. They were my cheerleaders, and I consider myself so lucky to have had so much support. In fact, one of my chemotherapy treatments was scheduled on my birthday. The team brought me a small cake to celebrate! It made me feel like I was a part of their family.
My recovery and healing process have been so amazing. Carrie England, the social worker is such a great resource, she helped me a ton. I am so fortunate to have my health and to be able to stay active and busy. You would never even know I had radiation because my scar looks like the mark from a ball point pen.
The care I received at Bronson was inspiring. Because I had such a good experience, I wanted other people with cancer to feel what I felt. So, I have started a support group in my hometown of Homer, MI. The community and businesses have helped so much.
Whoever hires the staff at the Bronson Cancer Center is doing an amazing job! It takes special people to make someone feel the way this team made me feel. If I lived closer to Battle Creek, I would volunteer to help cheer people up and help them believe the process. While I was sick, I received cards from people I didn’t even know and that helped me stay positive.
I recently attended the Cancer Survivors’ Celebration in Battle Creek. It was so inspiring to be in the company of so many wonderful people! Thank you to everyone at the Battle Creek Cancer Center!
