I cannot brag enough about how well this dreaded experience went for me
My experience with Lita Martin began the week prior to my in-office visit when she called me on the phone to go over my upcoming procedure (urodynamic testing). She explained the procedure briefly and instructed me on how to prepare for the appointment. She asked if I had any questions and took time to both acknowledge and assuage my concerns. During the in-office procedure, Lita was amazing at explaining every nuance of what would be happening to me and the reasons why. She also prepared me for any potential physical discomfort and she immediately administered lidocaine (with my consent) when the pain proved to be significant. In addition to explaining the procedure, Lita was also very personable and allowed me to share information about myself, such as what hobbies I enjoy and things that interest me. This was a huge benefit because it allowed my mind to focus elsewhere while she was hooking me up to the urodynamic machine. This reduced my stress and allowed me to be a little more relaxed. Lita was very engaging conversationally but not to the point of distraction or delay in completing her work. Beyond even the provider-patient interaction, I was well aware of the coordinated efforts between Lita (NP) and Nicole (assistant) in communicating and carrying out the procedures related to my care. This was the first time I have ever had to have urodynamic testing performed and it is not a pleasant procedure for anyone to have to undergo, although vitally necessary in my case. That said, Lita Martin created an environment and degree of rapport that allowed me to feel as relaxed and confident as possible while going through the procedure. I also don't mind sharing that I am a transgender person and at no time did I ever sense any awkwardness, anxiety or "odd energy" from Lita about working with me, which I have sometimes experienced in other medical settings. Lita genuinely cared about my experience and my health condition. I cannot brag enough about how well this dreaded experience went for me, largely due to warmth and professional treatment I received from Lita Martin and her support staff.
