I Was Treated with Real Caring and Respect
Ten years ago, Brian began to experience quite a bit of pain. He felt it when he was sitting, standing, walking and even driving. He stated that it was, “just miserable.” It hurt to walk any distance at all and he found it difficult to get through the day.
Using his self-diagnosing skills, he thought he was suffering with sciatica. He looked into some exercises he could do at home, but nothing alleviated the pain. That’s when he realized he needed to schedule an appointment and seek out a professional opinion.
After meeting with and diagnosing Brian’s condition, Dr. Joseph Burkhardt, from Bronson Orthopedic Specialists, suggested Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BMR). Hip resurfacing is a surgical technique designed to alleviate pain and stiffness caused by hip issues like osteoarthritis.
The BMR surgical procedure involves replacing damaged tissue and bone with an implant that restores smooth function to the hip joint. The process preserves more natural bone compared to a traditional hip replacement. This results in better stability and a reduced risk of dislocation.
Brian was thrilled to think that there was something that could offer a relief from the pain and discomfort he was living with. “When you have constant pain, like you get with a bad hip joint, it clouds everything you do,” shared Brian. “It is hard to be cheerful and enjoy activities with family and friends.”
Brian shared that his recovery period was about two months, and he was back to work in three months. After fully recovering, he was able to bike, walk and get back to life as normal. He is thankful for everyone at Bronson who helped him during his surgery and subsequent recovery. “The whole process was exactly like I expected,” said Brian. “I was treated with real caring and respect.”
Dr. Burkhardt said that most patients are able to return to unrestricted activities at one year.
Now, ten years later, Brian is having similar issues with his left hip and is scheduled to have the same surgical procedure he had with his right hip. After his first experience with Dr. Burkhardt and the BMR surgery, he has no apprehension. Instead, Brian is looking forward to the procedure and getting back to enjoying his life and hobbies with both hips ready to go.
