Jan's positivity and teamwork make her invaluable

Jan DeBoer, BSN, RN, is the recipient of the 2025 Nursing Excellence Award: Pride

Although Jan has been an employee at Bronson for 45 years, I've only had the privilege of working with her for 5 years. In that time Jan has exhibited the qualities of compassion, empathy, and dedication not only to our patients and their families but to her team as well.

She gathers valuable information for pre-surgery patients for the anesthesia team and ensures the patients receive the necessary testing, education, and support they need to have a safe and positive surgical outcome. Jan goes above and beyond her duties, often working extra to cover short shifts or other team members' needs. When it comes to her team, wow, Jan is amazing. She organizes birthday celebrations, holiday celebrations, and "just because" celebrations. She gives out gold stars to staff members who deserve special recognition. She makes valentine cookies yearly with each team members name on it. And, from what I understand, she's been doing this for years. Her gift of compassion carries on outside her work hours as well. She provides meals and rides for people in need. She has opened her home to her team members to provide a chance to decompress, laugh, and sometimes cry together. She has been a part of several mission trips acting as a post-anesthesia nurse. She is a nurse companion on the Talons out Honor Flight that recognizes American Veterans for their sacrifices and achievements flying to Washington DC to the memorials.

Jan's positivity and teamwork make her an invaluable asset to Bronson. Her dedication to excellence and her compassion for all people is truly inspiring.
