Justin offered true advice and was truly listening to me
Today has been a whirlwind and anything but normal. I was in a mental health crisis and was brought to the Emergency room in Kalamazoo. After riding in the back of a cop car as a college female, I was terrified, upset, angry, and honestly any other emotion you can name, I was feeling.
Upon my arrival I was greeted with open, non-judgmental arms by all staff. Though it was Justin who had the most impact. When arriving at my room, Justin was my nurse. He right away opened a box of tissues and offered his condolences for my situation. This gave me instant relief and allowed me to form a quick bond with him. Given the situation, anyone can imagine how uncomfortable it can be to talk about mental health let alone with people I just met. But Justin wasn’t just some guy. He offered true advice and was truly listening to me. Throughout my visit he would make small jokes to brighten up my mood, offered me many heated blankets, and checked in on me as if I were his own child. I have never felt more heard, welcomed, and respected by a caregiver.
Overall, Justin is the most deserving person of recognition in my eyes and I would love the honor to show him how much his presence has an impact!
