Kendra is the definition of a true leader
Kendra is the nurse manager of the general care unit at Bronson South Haven Hospital. Throughout her time with Bronson, Kendra has embodied the definition of a true leader. From being a resource to her staff during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, to representing South Haven on quality improvement committees, to being highly involved in optimizing policy and procedure for her staff, she has supported and embraced leadership to its highest level.
Bronson South Haven has seen a lot of turnover with staff and leadership in the last one and a half years and Kendra has stepped up in a phenomenal way to lead the nursing team and to be present when other leaders are unavailable. She continues to build relationships with many departments and oversees the house managers, case managers, social workers, her own nursing unit, and respiratory therapy. Recently, Bronson South Haven and Bronson LakeView Hospital began a swing bed program. Kendra has taken on complete ownership of this initiative. One day she sat down side-by-side with case managers to look at the specific criteria for swing bed patients and looked at every person one-by-one to ensure their appropriateness for the swing bed initiative. They had a tremendous learning and bonding experience with that process and the program has grown by leaps and bounds. She has been completely autonomous in managing the swing bed patients across the system, coordinating with Malinda Dickens at Bronson LakeView Hospital and Lisa Witt at Bronson Commons to continue the success of this project. She is a true jack-of-all trades.
Not only does Kendra care about providing wonderful patient care, she also shows that level of concern and connection with her own staff. She often fills in when staffing is lacking in all different areas of Bronson South Haven, even within the ED and case management. She is a highly valued resource for her team in answering questions and role modeling excellence in patient care. She has truly partnered with caregivers to ensure Bronson South Haven Hospital remains a special and valued part of our system. We are so blessed and thankful to have Kendra as our Nurse Manager and leader here at South Haven Hospital.
