Mary is THE resource we turn to

I cannot say enough about Mary's expertise in the Preadmission Unit at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
Many of our preceptors are working from home. This means that they come to the unit to educate and orient new staff, but are not here during the day-to-day operations of the unit. As we all know, the end of orientation does not mean the end of questions. This is where Mary’s knowledge shines. She is such a valuable resource to all of us. Because it is a very complicated process to figure out what testing is required for a patient based on their history, the procedure being done, the type of anesthesia and the surgeon specifications, there are a LOT of questions that arise in the preadmissions department. Mary is THE resource we turn to. The answers she gives are directly from the guidelines we have and she can readily pinpoint exactly where she is getting her answers. Plus, she readily keeps up with the changes in protocol. Mary is so patient in answering any number of questions that new (and not so new) staff present to her. We have had a lot of new staff in the past year and she never tires of fielding those questions and, in fact, explains the reasons behind the criteria, which helps us all understand and more importantly, helps us to think critically. In addition, she has taken it upon herself to be the liaison between PAT and surgeon's offices when there are questions that are not resolved by reviewing our guidelines.
We so appreciate Mary’s expertise and sharing her wealth of knowledge with us. Thank you, Mary!
