Mary takes her job to another level

Mary has been a nurse at Bronson Battle Creek for more than 30 years – now serving as a case manager. She is a vital part of what the medical team does every day to provide care at the hospital and transitions of care.

Mary seems to knows everyone in Battle Creek. Many times, patients walking through the hallway will say "Hi, Mary!" She may know them from a previous hospitalization or more likely just from being members in the same community. Not only does she say “Hi,” but then naturally will speak about the community they live in and memories both past and present.

Mary is compassionate with patients and staff. For example, she spends extra time with patients and families to come up with the best placement during transitions of care. Also, as a firm believer that patients need to move and not just lie in bed, she will stand at the bedside and do high kick marching to encourage patients who need it! Recently, Mary saw a mess on the floor where someone had bled. She got hot soapy water and began to clean this up so patient and family would feel at ease in the room. This is not unusual, but a part of what Mary does every day.

Mary takes her job to another level. She is so loved and respected by medical staff, ancillary staff and patients. Everything she does, she does with joy and happiness. Mary is smiling or laughing during much of the time I interact with her. She is a joy to work with and I am proud to call her friend.
