It’s so nice to go to an office where they know you and know your story

I was diagnosed with my bleeding disorder, Von Willebrand disease, at 12 years old. Von Willebrand disease is a bleeding disorder where your blood doesn’t clot properly. It’s a genetic disorder, so my mom has it and was the first person in our family to have it. She then passed it down to me and I passed it down to my daughter.

When I was diagnosed as a child, I was a patient at Bronson Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Specialists and was seen there until I turned 18. My care then transitioned to the adult office - Bronson’s Oncology and Hematology Specialists in Kalamazoo. After I had my daughter and found out she also had Von Willebrand disease, I ended up back at the pediatric office with her. It was a full circle moment for me!

While I was a pediatric patient, I met nurse Jenn, and she has been along for my story ever since! It’s so nice to go to an office where they know you and know your story. As an adult I see Dr. Usman. He addresses any concerns I have and always takes the time to explain things to me. My daughter sees Dr. Scott in the pediatric clinic, and she is amazing. She always takes the time to make sure my daughter understands her disease. The social workers are some of our favorites and the nurses here are like family!

We live about an hour away and people often ask us why we go to Bronson. I tell them that I’ve always gone here and had a great experience, and I’m just comfortable here!
