I was so Grateful They Were There to Take Care of Me

On March 11, I was admitted to Bronson Birthplace - Kalamazoo to be induced with our first baby. As I am sure a lot of first-time parents are, I was extremely nervous of what was about to come. However, we were greeted with some fantastic nurses that made our stay that much more memorable.

I have been a Bronson employee for 12 years and my husband as well, off and on, for roughly the same time frame. Both of us having been exposed to medical emergencies most of our lives, it is tough to be on the other side of things. So with all our own experiences and the nerves of our first baby, this was a journey that we heavily relied on the staff for help as this was all new territory for us. Since we had such a great experience with so many, we wanted to be sure to point out a few people that really stood out to us during our 5-day stay.

Taylor, R.N. | Labor & Delivery
Taylor was our night shift nurse and I am so glad that she was. She was there through the harder part of the induction and my delivery. I am not sure that words can properly describe the appreciation we have for her. From the moment she came on shift, she was super attentive and made sure I was as comfortable as I could be. She was funny and super personable. I felt that she was constantly looking out for me and my needs. Once my delivery became emergent, I was terrified. The first thing Taylor said to me was, "Don't worry, I will be with you the whole time." It helped put me at ease knowing I would have another familiar face with me. She held my hands while I received my spinal, came around to check on me multiple times during the C-section, reassuring me that everything was going well and that I was doing such a great job, even though I was a mess! Taylor was with me when I was moved to recovery as well, still making sure that I was doing okay, my husband was doing okay as well as our new baby girl. She helped us get her latched and take photos of our new family. Once my recovery was done, Taylor wheeled me to the Mother/Baby unit and we were both so sad to see her go. She was hands-down the best nurse we had for our entire stay. The care and compassion she has for the job in undeniable. The knowledge that she had throughout every step blew us both away. She is going to go far in this career and any patient is more than lucky to have her at their bedside!

Maddie, R.N. | Mother/Baby
The first day in the Mother/Baby unit was a bit of a blur for me, but I know I couldn't have done it without her help. My husband had his hands full with caring for our newborn baby as well as trying to help me get around post-C-section. Maddie was extremely attentive and was there for everything we needed throughout the day. Her knowledge of both postpartum care and newborns was incredible. We looked to her multiple times for advice.

Cali, R.N. | Mother/Baby
We had Cali for both overnight stays in Mother/Baby unit. The knowledge she had for the job was super helpful many times. Helped us through our first rough night of zero sleep and a crying baby. Offering reassurance and any help that she could. I think we were decently low-key patients, but she would come check on us regularly,  making sure that we didn't need anything and always stayed on top on my medication schedule.

Dr. Heather Dobbs and Sophia | Anesthesia Team
I work with these two ladies frequently in my daily work in interventional radiology. It was great to know that there were familiar faces there to help me through this terrifying moment. They both took such great care of me during my C-section, making sure I was comfortable and reassuring me that everything was going well. They even helped me hold my baby afterwards as I was shaking so badly from the procedure. I know they take great care of their patients and I was so grateful they were there to take care of me.

We had others that took great care of our family during our stay, but we really wanted to make sure that these few were recognized for their amazing care. They all really stood out to us and made our experience that much better! We are so thankful to them and know they will take such great care of every one they come in contact with.
