If I could choose one nursing leader to work for, I would always choose Dan

Nurse Dan standing on the hospital unit along with his chief nursing officer, receiving an Excellence in Nursing Award.

Dan Krage is the unit coordinator of the Bronson Battle Creek MICU. Dan always advocates for the needs of the patients and the unit/staff, even when met with adversity. He approaches tough subjects with management to address the concerns of the nursing staff. Our unit feels like he has always stood up for us and he always has our backs. Dan is a very trustworthy unit coordinator. We can come to him with anything, whether that be for advice or suggestions. We have never been worried about coming to Dan to address concerns, or if we just need to vent our frustrations. Dan listens with courtesy and empathy. We feel like our voices are heard with him - even when it feels like it isn't heard by anyone else. We do not view Dan as someone who is "above" us in a leadership position. He makes us feel like he is equal and on the battlefield with us. Dan honors differences, he is always a mentor to others on the unit and meets people where they are at on their healthcare journey. Dan is a resource and an excellent teacher to all of the staff. He is the greatest example of a leader. We really can't say enough good things about him. He is always respectful and he frequently interacts with patients and families on the unit. You can always count on Dan to make you laugh and make a hard day a little better. Dan allows everyone to express their opinions no matter if they are good or bad. He will never tell someone that they are wrong. He helps problem solve and provides guidance with resolution to problems. Dan has a positive attitude and we always look forward to working with him. Dan deserves the Nurse Leadership Award for more reasons than we can list. I know if I could choose one nursing leader to work for, I would always choose Dan.
