The synergy and support of the ED team is amazing

The Bronson Battle Creek Emergency Department is the recipient of the 2025 DAISY Team Award

I want to thank the entire Bronson Battle Creek ED team for their excellence in maintaining a strong work team and family - taking care of each other while at the same time providing great care to patients in emergency situations.

This winter has been especially challenging for our community in terms of the number of individual coming to our doors for healthcare - particularly those impacted by influenza. There have been weeks on end where significant numbers of beds are held overnight with patients waiting to be admitted to a unit, rendering the ED process complicated on multiple levels. When this happens, ED staff are called upon to provide the typical inpatient treatment, meds, therapies, etc. that a patient would receive upon admission, while at the same time continuing to provide excellent emergency treatment. This has been done with limited open ED beds, often with nearly half the capacity tied up with holds. This situation is exhausting and can take its toll. But this team has consistently rallied together, coming in early, starting late, taking heavy patient loads, maintaining a great sense of humor, and bending and stretching to accommodate the many needs. I am truly grateful to work with this team. The synergy and support, the non-stop, the excellence in care regardless of how tough it is - is amazing.
