We're a better team because of Amie

Amie Caruso is the recipient of the 2025 Sunshine Award

I have had the pleasure working with Amie for almost 3 years. She is a medical assistant at Bronson Pulmonary Medicine Specialists in Kalamazoo. There are so many reasons she deserves to be recognized. Amie is not only an amazing coworker but also dedicated to her job. She arrives each day with a smile. She consistently goes above and beyond for her coworkers, patients, and providers. The great thing is Amie doesn’t see what she does as going above and beyond, it's just who she is.

Amie is a seasoned employee and the “go to” for questions for new and seasoned coworkers. She is approachable and has become a mentor to everyone in the office. Amie will take her time with new employees and instruct them in a way that helps that person learn. She adjusts to what each new MA needs. I have personally seen her notice a new MA who was struggling to understand a scheduling issue. Amie re-explained everything to the new MA in a different way to help them understand and be successful.

Amie’s passion for her job stretches into her patient care. Amie will always try to answer her phone on the first ring. She also will answer the patient’s questions with patience and compassion. I have the pleasure of sitting near her in the office and have heard her talk to the same patient’s wife at least 6 times and explain how to obtain a specific sample. This patient’s wife was overwhelmed by all the things going on with her husband. Amie explained to this wife several times this procedure. This wife was so grateful to her she would also call with questions regarding the patient’s meds and upcoming procedures, often calling several times during the day requiring Amie to explain again the instructions. She did so every time until the wife had confidence. Amie approaches every patient and their concerns with professionalism and patience. She always meets the patient where they are.

Amie is also the first to jump when there is a patient incident in our office. She always helps when a patient's blood pressure is low, there is a fall and first aid is needed, or when a sick patient needs to go to the ER. She ensures the patient needs are met, transportation arranged, and the office continues to stay on schedule.

We are better with Amie being a part of our team!
