Wonderful nurses in the ER
Steve W and Allison E: Both of these nurses did an outstanding job helping my 2 year old son get comfortable while we waited for the doctor after a finger injury. I opened the door and only saw Steve (who was not introduced initially as our nurse) and asked if we could get water for our son as we had been waiting a long time. When Steve brought me the water he asked who it was for as he saw three of us in the room (my husband, my child, and myself). I told him for my son. He then stated they had apple juice if we wanted that for him. I said yes, and he enthusiastically went to get it. Never once did it seem like a nuisance.
During that time, Allison said they had some toys. Once we had the toys in the room with us, my son seemed less agitated and restless while waiting (he can only be entertained for so long with shows on the iPad, and there isn’t much to do in those rooms).
When Steve returned with the juice he offered applesauce, too. We said yes as my son had been sick all week and didn’t eat much supper (which no one would have known). When he walked in the applesauce, he had also brought orange jello “in case sugar free applesauce isn’t a hit.”
When the doctor returned, both of these nurses supported. Because of the of their actions and attitudes earlier, it put me more at ease. As the doctor needed items, they were well prepared and quick to get anything not prepped before hand.
After it was all done, Allison came in with a Mickey Mouse stuffed animal to give to my son as he had been watching Mickey while they worked on his thumb.
While I felt bad for the situation my son was in, these two nurses definitely helped the whole situation be a little more pleasant.
