At Bronson, we serve patients and families throughout southwest Michigan and northern Indiana. With four hospitals, a skilled nursing facility and several outpatient locations, we offer diverse opportunities for nurses to work across a variety of healthcare settings. Bronson Methodist Hospital

Bronson Methodist Hospital, located in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan, has 434 licensed beds and provides care in virtually every specialty — cardiology, orthopedics, surgery, emergency medicine, neurology, oncology — with advanced capabilities in critical care as a Level I Trauma Center; in neurological care as a Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center; in cardiac care as one of the nation’s 50 top cardiovascular hospitals; in obstetrics as the leading BirthPlace and only high-risk pregnancy center in southwest Michigan, and in pediatrics as one of only six children's hospitals in the state. Additionally, as a Magnet designated facility, Bronson Methodist Hospital is nationally recognized for nursing excellence.

  • Adult Medical Unit (AMU): This 33-bed unit serves stable medical patients with an emphasis on, but not limited to, geriatric patients. The unit also serves a small subset of gynecological surgical patients.
  • Cardiology Unit: A 35-bed unit specialized in all aspects of cardiac care. The unit provides comprehensive cardiovascular care to patients with acute and chronic heart conditions.  The unit also includes a 6-bed progressive care unit that provides care to patients with a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses. The staff on this unit focus on patient education to ensure successful patient outcomes and find that teamwork is essential to ensuing positive patient experiences.
  • Extended Medical Care Unit (EMCU): This 25-bed medical unit specializes in patients with acute care needs that require an extended hospitalization. This unit cares for a variety of patients with both medical and surgical diagnoses, allowing staff to observe the long-term effects of their treatment on patient outcomes.
  • General Medical Unit (GMU): A 29-bed stepdown unit caring for a variety of medical patients including oncology, pulmonary and renal. Patients on this unit may require dialysis, chemotherapy or insulin infusion, requiring nursing staff to become competent in a variety of specific treatment methods. It is a busy unit where you will gain many new skills. You’ll experience excellent teamwork, which is essential for delivering high-quality patient care.
  • General Surgery Unit (GSU): This is a 47-bed unit specializing in general surgery, vascular surgery and a wide array of surgical subspecialties (thoracic, urological, gynecological, bariatric, etc.). Staff provides care to a varied population of medical patients from the emergency department, local physician offices and other regional hospitals/care facilities.
  • Neurovascular Unit (NVU): On this 40-bed med/surg unit, patients receive specialized care for a variety of neurological diagnoses such as stroke, epilepsy, post-op ortho-spinal surgeries and other neurological disorders. Five of the beds on the NVU are specific to neuro-monitoring, where patients are scheduled for observation of seizure-like events. Although most patients are adults, the specialized neuro-monitoring unit provides certain occasions for pediatric care, as well.
  • Ortho Surgical Unit (OSU): This 24-bed med/surg unit specializes in the care of the patient undergoing orthopedic surgery including hip fractures and total joint replacements (hip, knee and shoulder).
  • Adult Float Pool Med/Surg (AVIP M/S): As an AVIP M/S nurse, you will float to all the med/surg units across the hospital.
  • Adult Float Pool Critical Care (AVIP CC): As an AVIP CC nurse, you will float to all the critical care units across the hospital.
  • Admissions Unit (AU): This 18-bed unit serves a variety of adult med/surg patients with an emphasis on completing the admission process and facilitating discharge or transfer to an inpatient unit. The AU also serves a specialized population of Emergency Department chest pain patients.
  • Neurological Critical Care Unit (NCCU): On this 12-bed critical care unit, patients receive care after acute strokes, intracerebral hemorrhage seizures and neurosurgery.
  • Trauma/Burn Critical Care Unit (TCU/SICU): The 20-bed Trauma/Burn/Surgical Intensive Care Unit specializes in the critical care needs of patients with traumatic injuries and burns, as well as post operative surgical patients requiring resuscitation in the intensive care unit.
  • Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU): This 18-bed intensive care unit is for patients ages 18+ who are chronically ill and/or require acute critical care or cardiac intensive care. Conditions seen in the MICU include respiratory failure, GI bleed, liver/renal failure, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, pulmonary edema, congestive heart failure, poly-substance overdose/toxicity, DKA and septic and cardiogenic shock.
  • Emergency Department (ED): The sole Level 1 Trauma Center in Kalamazoo County, the ED at Bronson Methodist Hospital has 59-beds and 3 trauma bays.
  • Surgery (OR): Surgery nurses can specialize in one or multiple surgical specialties, allowing you to become an expert in your field.
  • Labor and Delivery (OB): As a nurse on this 23-bed unit, you will care for both low-risk and high-risk pregnant individuals during labor, childbirth and the immediate postpartum period. This unit is equipped with a triage area, operating rooms and recovery rooms (PACU).
  • Mother Baby Unit (MBU): The MBU is a 30-bed postpartum and well-care nursery unit. On this unit, postpartum individuals and healthy newborns receive comprehensive care from hours after birth until they are ready for discharge.     
  • Antepartum Unit (APU): This 10-bed unit specializes in the short- and long-term care of patients experiencing complications after pregnancy, such as premature labor, gestational diabetes and pregnancy-induced hypertension.
  • Women/Childrens Float Pool (WCVIP): As a nurse on this unit, you will float between the L&D, MBU, APU, and at times the stepdown NICU. This position is a good fit for nurses who enjoy variety and are flexible in the type of care they provide.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): The NICU is part of the Bronson Children’s Hospital – the region’s only children’s Hospital. This 45-bed unit sees preterm to term newborn infants with a variety of critical care needs. The unit is divided into two floors, one focused mainly on critical care infants and the other focused on infants with feeding/growing concerns.
  • Pediatric Unit (Peds): Part of the Bronson Children’s Hospital, this 33-bed general pediatric unit (including a 4-bed stepdown unit) provides care for children between the ages of 0 and 18 with a variety of medical needs including, but not limited to, orthopedic, respiratory, oncology, trauma, surgical and medical. The Bronson Children’s Hospital incorporates art, music and pet therapy into our model of care. 
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU): On this 8-bed pediatric critical care unit, children receive care for a wide variety of medical and surgical diagnoses. The unit has all of the critical care therapies except ECMO. The PICU does not perform cardiac surgery or transplant surgeries.
  • Pediatric Float Pool (CVIP): As a CVIP nurse, you will float between the general pediatric unit, PICU and NICU. This is position is a good fit for nurses who enjoy variety, are flexible in the care they provide and want to specialize in pediatrics.
  • Bronson Outpatient Surgery Center (BOSC): Located down the street from Bronson Methodist Hospital, nurses can care for patients before, during and after outpatient surgical procedures.

Bronson Battle Creek Hospital

Bronson Battle Creek Hospital is a 189-bed, all-private room, community hospital providing a full range of outpatient and inpatient services including emergency care, heart and vascular care, cancer care, neurology and neurosurgery, obstetrics, orthopedics and sports medicine, general surgery, testing and diagnostics, and rehabilitation services. It was nationally recognized by Healthgrades for Surgical Care Excellence in 2023. The Cancer Center at Bronson Battle Creek has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons since 1995. 

  • Labor and Delivery (OB): The Bronson BirthPlace in Battle Creek has 15 beds – 11 for labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) care, 4 for antepartum/post-op care, 2 operating rooms and 3 triage bays. Additionally, the unit includes a newborn nursery. Here, pregnant, laboring and postpartum patients, as well as healthy newborns, receive comprehensive care. RNs on this unit are able to undergo cross-training in labor and delivery, including operating room procedures, postpartum care and nursery care. LPNs have the opportunity to care for postpartum couplets, assist in operating room procedures and provide support during deliveries.
  • Surgery (OR): OR nurses benefit from rotational assignments across all surgical specialties, allowing for a variety of learning and increased job satisfaction.
  • Prep and Recovery: This 12-bed unit specializes in preparing and recovering Cath Lab and neuro patients. This unit also supports cardioversion procedures.
  • Interventional Radiology (IR): This 3-procedure lab unit specializes in biopsies, port placements and stroke interventions. RNs and technicians scrub in and assist providers during procedures. The department handles all patient prep and recovery within the unit.
  • Vascular Access Team (VAST): This team is experts in vascular access, specializing in placing peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) and assisting with central line placements.
  • Stomal: This team sees both inpatient and outpatient cases and are experts in wound care, incontinence care and ostomies. They are specially trained in applying negative pressure therapy.
  • Oncology Unit (C5): This 37-bed unit provides care for patients with general medical diagnosis’ including all gastrointestinal, urological and gynecological surgeries. This is the only inpatient unit at Bronson Battle Creek that administers chemotherapy.
  • General Medical Unit (GMU): This 37-bed unit serves primarily the cardiac and respiratory population. 10 of the 37 beds are reserved for the clinical decision unit (CDU), which focuses on chest pain and syncope.
  • Adult Float Pool Med/Surg (AVIP M/S): As an AVIP M/S nurse, you will float to all the med/surg units across the hospital.
  • Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU): This is a 20-bed unit that provides care to patients with life-threatening conditions such as cardiogenic shock, heart failure, liver/renal failure, respiratory failure, neurological conditions and sepsis. 
  • Emergency Department (ED): A Level IV Trauma Center, this 39-bed unit serves Calhoun and surrounding counties.
  • Orthopedic-Neurology-Vascular Unit (NVU): This 30-bed med/surg unit specializes in orthopedic surgical care including total hip, knee and shoulder replacements, as well as fractured hips and non-surgical fractures like pelvic fractures. On this unit, patients can also receive care for neurological disorders such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and other inflammatory conditions.
  • Cath Lab: This 4-procedure lab unit specializes in cardiac procedures including heart catheterizations, device placements and electrophysiology cases. The team, consisting of RNs and techs, scrub in to assist providers during these procedures.

Bronson South Haven Hospital

Bronson South Haven Hospital is an 8-bed nonprofit community hospital servicing the lakeshore community of South Haven and its surrounding areas. It offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services including emergency care, medical services, wound care, specialty clinics, testing and diagnostics and rehabilitation.

  • General Care Unit (GCU): This 8-bed unit is the main inpatient unit for the hospital. With normal patient volumes, it is staffed with two RNs and one nurse assistant. The unit is a part of the swing bed program, allowing patients to receive skilled care such as rehabilitation or nursing (e.g., wound care, IV antibiotics) without being placed in a skilled nursing facility. During the day shift, GCU nurses also manage the infusion center, which has one chair and schedules patients for IV antibiotics, IV hydration, IM injections, SubQ injections and other infusions. As needed, staff on this unit will also care for patients on telemetry, Cardizem drips, insulin drips and other specialized treatments.
  • Emergency Department (ED): A 14-bed, Level 4 Trauma Center, all Bronson South Haven ED nurses undergo training to care for all patients - pediatrics, geriatrics, traumas, critical care and everything in between. All nurses rotate their assignments throughout their shift, including direct patient care and triage. This team is also responsible for responding to all rapid responses and codes that happen on the first floor of the hospital.

Bronson LakeView Hospital

Bronson LakeView Hospital in Paw Paw is a 16-bed critical access hospital serving Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties. It offers a range of easily accessible acute care services including surgery and emergency care. Recognized as an Age-Friendly Health System, Bronson LakeView Hospital is known to provide excellent care for older adults.

  • Acute Care Unit (ACU): The ACU at Bronson LakeView Hospital is a 16-bed unit catering to adult and geriatric patients. Out of the 16 beds, 10 are licensed swing beds, allowing for both inpatient care and rehabilitation before discharge. The unit is always staffed with three RNs and 1-2 nursing assistants. The ACU's friendly and professional staff have fostered a caring work environment. The team emphasizes personal growth and independence while supporting one another in both professional and personal aspects.
  • Surgery (OR): The Bronson LakeView Hospital OR performs a variety of general surgery procedures, including those of the digestive tract, abdomen, skin and underlying tissue. Nurses on this unit are able to enhance their perioperative skills through rotation in pre-op, OR and PACU.
