Bone Infection

Swelling of the bone can occur due to an infection that has entered through the blood stream or by spreading from nearby tissue. The medical term for a bone infection is osteomyelitis. A bone infection can occur as a result of deep chronic wounds. It can lead to infection of the joints and other serious complications.

In children, a bone infection happens most often in long bones of the legs and arms.
