Profile

An Nguyen, MD, is a critical care physician whose journey into medicine began with a passion for the breadth and urgency of emergency medicine. Over time, he discovered a deeper calling in caring for critically ill patients, leading him to specialize in critical care. Dr. Nguyen is particularly drawn to the cerebral challenges of the ICU, resuscitation and the importance of meaningful goals-of-care conversations.

A Kalamazoo native, Dr. Nguyen was born at Bronson Methodist Hospital and completed his medical education at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. Returning to Bronson felt like coming home, with his family still rooted in the area.

Dr. Nguyen credits his father, a former Vietnamese navy officer, who immigrated to the U.S. after the Vietnam War, as the most influential figure in his life. His father's resilience and dedication instilled a strong work ethic that continues to guide Dr. Nguyen’s approach to medicine and life.

Each day, Dr. Nguyen finds purpose in the fast-paced, team-oriented environment of the ICU, where he considers it a privilege to care for patients during their most vulnerable moments. His professional interests include resuscitation, teaching and facilitating complex care discussions. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and extended family, as well as playing soccer, making music, traveling and gaming. He also remains committed to community service through volunteer work in free clinics and street medicine.
