Profile

When Ashley was a substitute teacher, she witnessed an occupational therapist (OT) treat a child at school. She decided to shadow the OT and volunteer at a nursing home rehab when she fell in love with the profession. After earning her degree, she began working at Bronson where she was trained to work with outpatient adults, treat lymphedema and specialize in visual deficit re-training with neurological issues. She loves helping others and being part of a dynamic team treating complex cases.

Having breast cancer at the age of 25 made a big impact on Ashley’s life. She learned very quickly to not take life for granted and how meaningful simple daily tasks can be, such as showering independently. It helped her see therapy from a patient’s view. She feels that her experiences have come full circle because she now treats many patients with cancer.

Ashley enjoys many aspects of her job including being able to make a difference in her patient’s lives by helping to reduce pain and swelling, advocating for them and helping them regain mobility. She is also grateful to be on a team with other passionate individuals like herself.

At work Ashley volunteered to start a social committee to improve employee morale and teamwork; this involves planning fun work events and connecting with all disciplines. She also volunteers at the hospital’s cancer survivorship celebration. Outside of work, Ashley loves to spend time with her family, exercise, cook, read and spend time outdoors.
