Profile

Courtney chose to become an acute care nurse practitioner because life is so precious—acute care is often a person's last chance at life after what could have been a deadly car accident. “How amazing would it be to have, not only the knowledge, but the capability to be able to change the direction of even one life in a positive way?” asks Courtney. “People all over the world lack information about healthcare, which, unfortunately, may ultimately lead to serious chronic diseases and disability—all of which require acute care services.”

Courtney says the biggest influence in her life was a patient who came to visit her after he had recovered. The patient visited her in the intensive care unit where she was working and she was able to meet him for the first time. He said, "No matter what anybody tells you, YOU are the cure, all of you in healthcare." And they continued to have one of the most powerful conversations she has ever participated in. “It was almost as miraculous as his journey to recovery,” says Courtney. “This conversation made me realize the impact that providers have on patients and clinical outcomes and it keeps me going even on difficult days.”

Courtney gets excited to come to work each day because healthcare is ever changing—there will always be something new to learn, and new to teach the patients of tomorrow. She says she cannot wait to witness the advancements in medicine and technology to come.

Courtney is a HUGE animal lover and advocate. In her free time, she enjoys taking pictures of her Samoyed puppy, Aro. She is always interested in finding new hobbies. Her latest is gardening and houseplants. Courtney’s favorite things are elephants, hiking, good food, spontaneous getaways, concerts and interior design. She has also always been interested in traveling. Experiencing new cultures and meeting new people really brings me back to life.
