Lucas Nguyen, MD

Dr. Nguyen chose a career in medicine after witnessing firsthand the challenges underserved communities faced in accessing proper medical care while growing up in Viet Nam. These early experiences deeply inspired his desire to care for those in need. With a strong attention to detail and a genuine appreciation for precise, hands-on work, he found that cardiothoracic surgery was the perfect blend of his passion for medicine and his meticulous nature. For Dr. Nguyen, there is something truly meaningful about helping others heal, and he feels incredibly fortunate to experience that every day through his work.

What excites Dr. Nguyen most about coming to work each day is the sense of connection and purpose it brings. He considers himself lucky to work alongside colleagues who are not only dedicated professionals but also close friends and extended family. Their support eases the demands of the job and brings joy to his daily routine. Most importantly, seeing his patients benefit from his care is a deeply rewarding and unique experience, one that continually inspires him to give his best.

Dr. Nguyen credits much of his personal and professional growth to the meaningful interactions he has had throughout his life. From his elementary school teacher, who instilled in him the value of discipline and hard work, to his friends and family, who emphasized the importance of a strong support system, these relationships have shaped his character and perspective. His mentors and colleagues have guided his career path, while his patients have taught him humility and continuously inspire him to learn, grow and strive to become better every day.

Outside of work, Dr. Nguyen enjoys attending concerts, exploring new restaurants and spending time outdoors to connect with nature. These activities help him unwind and maintain a healthy work-life balance. A chemist at heart, he also enjoys tutoring chemistry in his free time. This not only reconnects him with his academic roots but also brings him great joy in helping others take meaningful steps toward their career goals through foundational science education.
